This course focuses on an introduction to and application of robotic devices for neurological, functional and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation in patients with neurological impairments. We introduce neurophysiological principles of rehabilitation, explain the basics of robotic design and control strategies, describe the state of the art and representative advances in rehabilitation robotic systems. Advanced topics including cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and functional electrical stimulation are also presented. Special emphasis is placed on discussion of the currently active research topics and their clinical application.
