BA (MA) Sachbereichs-/Regionalübung: The continuity of the crisis (talk)?
Mittwoch, 18.03.2026
What is a crisis, and how do anthropologists contribute to our understanding of one of the buzzwords of our time? How do anthropologists study crises ethnographically, and how do their theories contribute to a better idea of the exceptionality of times of turmoil? Are crises always described as unexpected, unpredictable and unprecedented, or are they rather seen as a protracted experience, even part of everyday life? In the face of diverse political, financial and ecological crises, anthropologists began to examine how people live with crises, how they deal with them, criticise them, question them and creatively transform them. Currently, crises constructed around gender issues and migration are increasingly the focus of attention and will be included to this course. What is a crisis, and how do anthropologists contribute to our understanding of one of the buzzwords of our time?
