Talking about Animals, talking with Animals

This course explores the roles of animals in English-speaking cultures and communities. We will examine anthropocentrism and anthropomorphism in grammar, discourse and society. We will explore how different animals are meaning-making resources for English speakers through metaphor theory and naming practices. We will develop understandings of the features of trans-species interactions across a range of ways that humans interact with animals.
